I found a large group of folks who play every night and it’s really fun to play with the same rotating group of people. Why? There's nothing to talk about! If it's a short, shallow, simplistic 2-5 hr experience with zero replay value, usually with very forgettable story, because you just can't develop themes and characters well over such a short period. Really common trend in VR - a single player game comes out, and within 2 days nobody talks about it any more, at all.
And once those fizzle, they're forgotten. So there's this flow of either multiplayer games with small, unsteady player base where just finding a match at off-peak is difficult or impossible, or short, shallow single player titles too low on content to keep attention for long. And to exacerbate this issue, most VR devs cut corners and make their games multiplayer-centric, so they don't need to create decent enemy AI or decent amount of content for their game. Overwhelming majority of gamers don't have a VR headset, so for any VR game the player base is tiny compared even to indies on flat screen. This is why VR is stuck, and has been for years.
